The newest thing in skin care is skin cycling. The same reason people need to mix up their workout or change their shampoo…if you do the same thing every day, year in, year out – your body adapts and it stops responding like it initially did.
Skin Cycling with Facial5
Dermatologists have been recommending the intermittent or alternating use of active ingredients for a long time, but a catchy new name has brought the practice to the forefront. That new term is “skin cycling”. It was coined by Whitney Bowe, MD, a New York City–based board-certified dermatologist, whose skin cycling TikTok post has 2.1M views.
Skin cycling refers to a nighttime skincare routine where active ingredients are strategically applied on the first two days, followed by two days for rest and recovery. This four day cycle allows time for your skin to repair itself after using certain products in order to prevent irritation and inflammation. Plus, it is believed that alternating products gives you improved results, in a similar way to physical training routines.
Night one is exfoliation, night two is for retinoids and nights three and four are recovery nights, where you focus on hydration and barrier repair. Once you finish the cycle, you repeat the process. While many popular skincare methods require upwards of 10 products. At Facial5 we keep it simple with our clean, healthy, effective products!
Night 1 – Exfoliate
Cleanse your skin with your favorite Facial5 step 1 product. Our Orchid Cleanser is incredibly gentle for even the most sensitive faces! Just two pumps and a little water and you will have a nice gentle non-drying foam to apply! ]After you’re done cleansing, pat dry and then use out Tropical Enzyme Peel. This peel is a blend of natural fruit ingredients (enzymes) that dissolve dead skin cells and reveals younger looking smoother skin. Gentle enough for use by those with highly sensitive skin. For this step, we have stayed away from physical exfoliators because they can be irritating and abrasive and are not favorable for sensitive skin. Follow with your Step 4 Organic Oil Free Moisturizer.
Night 2 – Repair
Typically, night 2 is retinoids, however, for those with sensitive skin, a retinol product could activate irritation and redness. So for those whose skin is more reactive, we’ve chosen a gentle repair product. Repeat the steps from night 1 but replace your exfoliant (Tropical Enzyme Peel) with Stem Cell Magic Cream. Plant stem cells naturally have antioxidant properties, and they nourish skin cells which promotes cell turnover and increases collagen production. This can aid diminished visibility of lines and wrinkles, improved skin texture and tone, and overall younger, better-looking skin. Specifically, Gardenia Stem Cells have been found to block the breakdown of collagen and improve skin’s density, firmness, and texture. Do you see why we call it “Magic?”No need to follow with moisturizer, Stem Cell Magic should always be the final step of your nighttime routine when it’s applied. It’s more effective left on as the last step for the evening.
Nights 3-4 Hydrate and Moisturize
The next two nights are dedicated to hydration and repair, which means no exfoliating or retinoids. It begins with washing the day away with your Orchid Cleanser. Now you need to apply a great hyaluronic acid and accomplish deep hydration to help repair and replenish your skin’s natural barrier. Our Sensi-Derm Clay Mask fits the bill to a tea! Rich clays dive deep to purge dirt and oils from pores. Nutrient-rich Vitamin E, Jojoba and Grape Seed Oil will moisturize for lasting skin softness. This revitalizing mask is formulated with Chamomile and Aloe Vera to help soothe and visibly reduce the signs of distress such as dry and unbalanced skin by achieving a hydrated healthy looking complexion. Perfect for sensitive skin types. Follow the Sensi-Derm Clay Mask with our deeply hydrating Tighten Up Hyaluronic Serum.
